§ 10-461. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Appliance means utilization equipment, other than industrial equipment, ordinarily built in standard sizes or types, which is installed or connected as a unit to perform one or more functions such as clothes washing, air conditioning, food mixing, deep frying, etc.

    Authorized person means an individual or authorized representative of a firm or corporation which is licensed and registered under the provisions of this chapter to do the work as permitted in this chapter.

    Board means the building trades board created in section 10-21.

    Building means every building, house or other structure.

    Electrical contractor means a person skilled in the planning, superintending and practical installation of electrical facilities who is familiar with the laws, rules and regulations governing such work. The term "electrical contractor" also means any individual, firm, partnership, corporation or business performing skills of an electrical contractor, or an electrician or the business of contracting, or furnishing labor or labor and materials for the installation, repair, maintenance or renovation of electrical facilities or electrical construction work according to the provisions of the Oklahoma Electrical License Act 59 O.S. § 1680 et seq.

    Electrical maintenance means electrical work limited to maintaining existing electrical systems, facilities or equipment by an owner of the electrical systems, facilities or equipment or the employee of a person, company, corporation or entity owning the electrical systems, facilities or equipment. The term "maintenance" shall not include any alterations or additions to existing systems, facilities or equipment.

    Journeyman electrician means a person other than an electrical contractor who engages in the actual installation, alteration, repair or renovation of electrical facilities unless specifically exempted by the provisions of the Oklahoma Electrical License Act, 59 O.S. § 1680 et seq.

    Maintenance electrician means a maintenance electrician is any person other than an electrical contractor who can qualify as a journeyman electrician under this article and who is employed the major portion of each year to do maintenance work only on the private property of any person, firm, association or corporation which is not engaged in construction work or any expansion or addition. No person shall engage in the occupation of maintenance electrician without first registering as journeyman electrician with the electrical inspector, paying the fee for, and meeting all requirements of a journeyman electrician. A maintenance electrician is permitted to do or perform electrical maintenance and minor repair work on property of his employer. All fees and inspections for maintenance electricians must be paid, except public schools and state supported institutions, whose fees are specifically exempted. Inspection may be made by engineers employed by said agencies.

    Personal residence means a single-family dwelling, owned and occupied by that person as their primary residence. A new construction single-family dwelling may only be considered a personal residence upon issuance of a certificate of occupancy by the building inspection department.

    Premises wiring system means interior and exterior wiring, including power, lighting, control and signal circuit wiring together with all its associated hardware, fittings and wiring devices, both permanently and temporarily installed, which extends from the load and of the service drop, or load and of the service lateral connectors to the outlets. Such wiring shall not include wiring internal to appliances, fixture motors, controllers, motor control centers and similar equipment.
