§ 16-1. Attempted offenses.

  • (a)

    A person is guilty of an attempt to commit an offense against the ordinances of the city if, acting with the kind of culpability otherwise required for the commission of the offense, he shall purposely engage in conduct which would constitute the crime if the intended circumstances were as he believes them to be; or, when causing a particular result in an element of the crime, he does anything with the purpose of causing or with the belief that will cause such result, without further conduct on his part.

    (b)

    The punishment for a violation of subsection (a) of this section shall be the same as for the offense attempted.
