§ 41-640. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this division, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Bulky waste means solid waste, including but not limited to discarded furniture, worn-out appliances, and discarded carpet, but excluding rocks, bricks, chunks of concrete, construction debris, and automobile parts.

    Curbside means all containers or items set out for collection by the city within five feet from the back of curb or edge of paved or graveled roadway surface.

    Excess garbage means any amount of garbage or refuse in excess of nine standard sized items. An item shall consist of any of the following:

    (1)

    Standard sized garbage bags or garbage cans;

    (2)

    A bundle of yard trash which has been tied in a length of less than six fee; or

    (3)

    A box not exceeding 30 inches square filled with garbage or refuse.

    The term "excess garbage" shall not include empty boxes.

    Garbage means the animal, vegetable or other organic waste resulting from the handling, preparation, cooking and consumption of food, and any refuses, litter, rubbish, or waste, or matter of any kind or form which is uncared for, discarded, abandoned, worthless, or useless, including but not limited to paper, ashes, rags, cartons, boxes, tin cans, old clothes and shoes, broken dishes and utensils. The term "garbage" shall not include yard trash, bulky waste, rocks, bricks, chunks of concrete, construction debris, and the matter specified in section 41-651. No item of garbage set out for collection shall exceed 50 pounds in weight.

    Houseside means all containers or items set out for collection by the city greater than five feet, but less than 100 feet from the back of curb or edge of paved or graveled roadway surface.

    Sanitation director means the director of public works or his designee.

    Yard trash means all types of severed vegetation, including, but not limited to leaves, grass clippings, tree branches and weeds.
